FIRST TIME WATCHING ALIEN (1979)

Yo. Back with another horror-themed post. My first time watching the debut film of the classic horror franchise- Alien!

Hang around and catch my review, easter eggs and other cool stuffs about the film. ¬¬¬ Lets get into it ¬¬¬

A lil bit o' background history.

The 1979 (Read: pretty old) film premiered at the Fourth Seattle International Film Festival and aired at Midnight. I would think that watching this at the cinema would have made it much more intense and atmospheric because after viewing it on Disney+ at home.. I felt like it was a pretty 'meh' experience (and I do be having a pretty kickass sound system at home =P). It initially didn't do well at the box-office but has since become one of the most famous film franchises of horror cinema.

LONG STORY SHORT.

It is about a crew of this very cool-as-beans sounding spacecraft called 'Nostromo', making their way back to Earth after a space mission. The crew decides to land on the moon to investigate a strange distress call emitting from the lunar surface. Thats when our crew learnt a very hard and fatal lesson.....

Never respond to strange distress calls coming from the moon. even if its cutesy and hello-kitty-ish.

The film itself fell short from the hype surrounding it. Its one of those good but not great type films sadly.

Pros

  • The sound effects were brilliant and really added a layer of thrill and suspense to the already tense environment

  • The set was pretty damm good; almost makes you believe they shot it in space.

  • The aliens were freaky and believable but not too camp, which was really common for films coming out from the 70s-80s

  • Sigourney Weaver is iconic as is her character Ellen Ripley, although quite bit**y. Check out her film dossier below.

Cons

  • Pacing was slow as hell at the first half and dragged on....and on.. until the first scary bit

  • Some of the dialogues were dull and too technical for my liking.

  • Not as scary as i thought. Hack- its not even scary to be honest.

  • The aliens were not as intimidating as what I had pictured in my mind.

  • The damm cat jump-scaring everyone all the time. Stupid cat.

  • *GASP*... could possibly be quite boring for today's millennial/tik-tok generation standards.

"Will you listen to me Parker??! Shutup!!"- Ellen Ripley (In a very dramatic scene while scolding Parker)

Although the film was not as good as I expected, it is still pretty kick-ass and iconic as it debuted one of the most instantly recognizable monsters in film history upon us all; plus tell me what other thing from 1979 is still cool even today?!!!
