ENTER THE ASIAN MULTIVERSE

A new movie staring an all-star cast that echoes trademarks of the MCU

Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh) is an innocent elderly lady filing her taxes together with her husband, Waymond (Ke Huy Quan) and father, played by prolific screen legend, James Hong. What seems like an ordinary trip to the local IRS soon descents into mystery and intrigue with the IRS agent, Deirdre Beaubeirdra (Jamie Lee Curtis) ominously declaring: “it does not look good.” The quixotical Wang suddenly experiences an out -of -body episode that sees her venture into an alternate dimension, where she encounters a version of her husband from within another universe.

Waymond declares that the world needs Evelyn’s help to prevent its eventual demise. He explains in hushed tones that he has seen a thousand versions of her from across the multiverse. Evelyn lived many lives as a chef, film star, martial artist and spy amongst others and can access their emotions, memories, and skills.

Enter a comedic adventure that spans across centuries, from the historic Chinese woodlands to the temple of futuristic mask-toting beings. The enigmatic protagonist flings pizza signs and chairs in dazzling displays of Kungfu prowess, combating and destroying the many evils that lurk from the cosmos.

With a flourish of gags like googly eyes and exaggerated sausage as fingers, expect this film to be a whimsical and imaginative adventure.

An all-star Asian ensemble stars in this science-fiction comedy written and directed by filmmaking duo, Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert). The Daniels are best known for their directing of music videos, with their breakout hit being the music video for the popular track by DJ Snake, “Turn Down for What”, but they broke out into feature films with “Swiss Army Men” in 2016.

The duo also won the Directing award at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” is set to open the South By Southwest Film Festival on March 11th 2022 and will be theatrically released worldwide on March 25th 2022.
